Combines Hole in rotor

They wear through right where the elephant ears (sorry IH) meet the rotor skin. I have the dealer hard surface this area before I take delivery. I can't believe they don't do this from the factory on a rice machine. Maybe the bullet rotor doesn't have this problem.

Thanks for your comments and yes, you would think that it would be logical and abundantly obvious that this area should be hard-faced. I've never heard of an IH wearing a hole in the rotor. Elephant ears coming off yes, but never a wear hole.

They've known since '01. That's when they had to replace the rotor on my '00 9750. Back then, they said that mine wore through because I only ran rice through it. All other Deere rotoraries would be used primarily on "other" crops and wouldn't have this problem. "A rice farmer should have a CTS anyway". Now they don't even make the CTS anymore. Go figger.

Have not heard of this before, but rice being very abrasive, I can see this happening. Have you got some photos available to emailIJ I would like to see it. If so, I can leave my email address.

I bet they said "you're the only one that's ever worn a hole in the rotor". Your right about the CTS - I have had 2 of those and they are the most underated machine that JD has never supported. I have changed all my rotor bars and concaves to loewen and that does make a lot of differance on the STS. Thrash wheat at 750RPM and it requires much less HP to run.
