Combines honest info on sts vs walker

At times we have had to run till midnight here in Southern Ontario doing wheat at 85bu_ac. We were using 9650sts with 25ft grain heads, we had to slow down to about 3mph and the combines still had no problem going through the wheat. We didnt have one plug up from our experience. Also we have combined in the rain to finish a field off and the sts was slowed down but didnt plug unlike the case rotors that we ran beside the sts in the rain as soon as it started to sprinkle the case was finished. The feeder house was plugging at 0.5 mph.

had to 9650 walkers in 2000 which we trade to STSs in 2001, expect 15-20% more capacity in dry wheat with a slight increase in fuel consumption per acre. can't help in beans but in 19% moisture wheat, greenstraw, lodged and hard to thrash, and fine cut chopper, you can keep going. expect same in tough conditions as walkers. canola gaves us a 75% increase in speed, flax was thin this year and headers were limiting factor.

I think that it is a tale, that a rotor has to quit earlier because of dew. I ran CASE and STS both through all kind of conditions. I cut through green straw, weeds and finished in rain. I also ran 9610 walkers for a year. The STS has more capacity but also wears out a lot faster. For cutting and threshing reasons I like all three of them.

Dakota, I agree with you that it is a tale that the rotor machines have to shut down when the due sets in. If that is true I wonder why I'm almost always the last one back to the trailer park at night when I'm runing CaseIH combines. K.A.

Ya, Walnut stumps tend to stop things up pretty good to in a 6620 TII.

seems to me stumps cause far more problem than the ( not so ) odd limestone.

lupins and barley at harvest where a bit low this season,so had to scrape the ground, surprising what came out of the stone trap:),also had a pinched nerve in my shoulder, took some brufen anti-inflammatorys, not a good idea trying to scrape the ground while on them things, the pink elephants tend to get in the way and you cant see a big rock that is making its way down the comb

Our CAT's still have zero hours on, so I can't say much. But I promis a detailed report again by the end of the year.
