I forgot to add - the moral of the story is no matter what they tell you, the size of your hose DOES matter! ;) Tom l.

I also added the 3" hose this year. I just wanted to add my 2 cents worth. We were having some trouble with getting a good clean cut in some green stem beans, so we took the hose off thinking that it was holding the beans up or somthing stupid like that. Well the cut wasn't any better and we noticed that since the beans weren't falling under the auger as well the pickup reel was catching more of the stalks and throwing them up into the wind and over the back of the header. After a few hours I would have a big pile of stalks on top of the feeder house and piles hanging on both ends of the header. That hadn't happened in the previous 800 acres with the hose installed.

Just my $.03 ($.02 American) worth! I adopted Tbran's 3" hose mod on my 20' C62 flex head, and I've never regretted it! Even in heavy, weedy soybeans and barley, this mod has greatly improved the "flow" into the auger. I've just started the soys now and am anxious to see how well it works in the stunted stands of beans (it hasn't been the best growing season, ya know)! Yes Tom, me thinks you'll be ignoring your rigid head next year!
