billybob it has been pretty bad in a lot of places yet where i live we need lots more rain even though i have only done 3 days harvesting in 4 weeks.A city north of me recieved 16 inches in 24 hours of rain.In New South Wales were the floods are really hurting the harvest had just started on what was going to be a great crop a lot of which would have been Prime hard wheat, now if the farmer is lucky it might make feed.Another problem is that the floodwaters will flow down river systems and ruin crops that are just ripening and not under water now.For a lot of farmers this will be the 3rd bad season in a row. john.

It's mainly northern and central New South Wales that has coped the heavy rain and floods. There's a lot of wheat in this area that has been very badly affected. Many crops on the floodplains have just been washed away and won't be harvested at all. Those that haven't been washed away will be flat out making feed grade and i've heard estimates in the range of 1-1.5 million tonnes being affected. Put into perspective, the NSW crop was put at 6.5 million tonnes and the whole of Australia, 19.5 million tonnes, so that is a lot of potentially high quality wheat gone. Recently planted cotton has been badly affected as well. This is a big cotton producing area. The rain has been pretty much non-stop for about 3 weeks. Were we've been harvesting near Moree (northern New South Wales) they've had 8 inches for November. The crop is about 70% harvested with the rest to be feed grade. It will be another week before we can get on the ground again. Cheers
