Combines How do get the stalk roll bolts out of the alum shaftsIJ

Sometimes if you can get a good hit on the bolt head it will jar it a bit to make it start. I know when the bolt heads get a bit rounded or worn it can be hard to make the socket work. The other thing might be to put a bit of heat on it to try and make it expand and loosen. If I recall, the reason IH used the aluminum shafts was to make the head a bit lighter. Good luck with this one!

Aren't the knives tapered on one side and only supposed to be run one wayIJ If I can get by with reversing the knives on mine it would save a lot of money

They only have one tapered cutting edge but you can turn them and use them on the opposite stalk roll. If the leading edge of the knife is rounded and the hardened edge is gone, you might as well get new ones because it will not be very agressive with that much wear. Also, if you have excessive wear one the former leading edge that is now to the rear of the stalk roll, it might leave some trash at the back of the stalk roll. This tends to hang up the ears as the gathering chains try to clear them out. If you are in damp conditions it really slows things up. good luck!
