71362809 is a possibility. It has a piston inside a piston so to speak and is used on R50's and 87'F3s. It will 'throttle' the oil so as the tube approaches in the cradle it just eases in nice and soft. If a R40-50 or other late models don't do this there is an o ring blown in the piston bore. The Cyl does not have to be removed to repair this. Undo the chain, knock the plug back and remove the snap ring and pull the assy out from the bottom. look at a parts break down and see where the oring is missing and replace it for the feathering action. The orfice plug_plunger was also reduced in size many years ago as an field improvement via service bulletin.

Not my idea but saw a simple high presure hyd hand operated restrictor value placed in line to slow it down so that it uses the entire time that the selonoid value is activated at high idle. Also this clever fellow put a automotive shock absorber with a built in spring on the cradle so it dosen't just bang down and also gets a little lift off. Viagra for a GleanerIJ Of course just operating a 72 is a great turn on.

I have had the orfices come loose and bang around in there until they were just a little ball. When this took place I just bronzed fitting shut and drilled out 1_16". The longer the orfice the more it restricts oil so you may try just leaving your orfices in and also plug and drill the fittings. Another choice would be drill it more like .050" instead of .0625 which I have done. Seams to me it slowed it up a little to much for cold oil but after cycling with warm oil it worked fine. Unsure about the number tbran recited but I believe you would have to switch complete cylinder to get the dampening the R50 and newer machines have. I think tbran mentioned the kit that would dampen the early R40-50 more than the first ones did. Outward strokes have allways been dampened but some are missing the check ball in end cap and then there would be very little dampening.
