On some machines, it seems like the only way to relieve that pressure is to hold reel lower switch on while shutting off engine. That will take care of the pressure and allow you to hook up easily. Kelly

Tom, I have taken a shop rag and folded it over the male end and rapped on it some with hammer to relieve pressure. The layers of cloth help protect the tip from damage, and also catches the oil. See if this helps.

We put the reel in the down position. Down as far as it will go, then shut machine down to release the pressure. This seems to always work with our machine.

Correct me if I am wrong, but that will only relieve pressure on the combine side. The problem I notice is after the head sits in the sun for a few minutes, even when the reel is in the down position, oil will expand and build pressure in the cylinders on the head. Thanks Tom in MN

I had an N7 that was hard to get hooked up. I found that shutting off the motor with the reel switch in the down position before unhooking reel stopped about 90% of the hard to hook up hose problem. You had to get the pressure relieved. Might have been a leaky valve in the back that was the cause of the problem. Kelly

You are right Tom; If the temps raise after unhooking the head lines get pressure. Once (I was at the shop at the time) I just used my handyman jack and lifted the reel arm on one end and pressure was gone.

Tom , my solution if this happens is to place female coupler against end of male coupler and strike with palm of hand, five years of this abuse has not hurt anything so far.

Thanks, Kelly. I will sure try doing that when and if rain stops.
