the bearings are easy to replace and u should not have to remove the shaft with all the gears..just close ur sieve and throw a sack or mat on top and climb in..punch out the roll pin behind the gear noting how many washes are in front of the roll pin and behind it these must go back in the right place ..the auger should go forward enough to remove ur bearing if it does not u can undo the wooden block under the feeder house..u can remove the whole auger at the same time 9 times out of 10 u do not have to touch the wooden blocks only slide the gears out of ur way if u have to hope this helps

I just rebuilt all those augers a month ago. Guru, is correct in his explanation. I was more elaborate, took out the sieves, replaced all those bearing, and the big bearings and bushings on the pitman drives etc. Its really not too bad. One very important thing too look for is to be sure that the play from those augers is in the gears. On my 1660, the wear was not in the gear teeth but on the hex end of the distribution augers where the gears sit on. I took my augers out and rebuilt the ends where the gears sit on. Then, I put on new gears. I still recommend removing the sieves because it doesnt take long and makes lots more room to work. Go inside hold the first gear and have someone turn the auger and you will see where the wear is.

yes u are right ohio steve about more room with the sieves out..just make sure the washers on the shaker arms go back in the right places some have two on the inside and others have one we also measure the end of the hex shaft to make sure it is in the centre if we remove it ..did u find any cracks cracks in the sidewalls behind ur pitman arms we found cracks in most of our machines

Guru, DFG (me) did that rear end rebuild, no cracks behind the pitman drives, but I noticed the 2 washers on the inside of the arms. I put it back together with the washers one on each side, which now I know is wrong. Why did they do thisIJ

yes why do thereIJIJIJ... we have found some of ours with 3 on the inside and others with only one we go around with a felt pen and mark how many and where there are... did u align the square shaft with the machine... also if u took all the shaker arms off u will have to retime the sieves..

Yeah did the alignment and timed the sieves. We are harvesting now,everything seems too be running nice. Not bad for an amateur!!
