01' 9750, 01' 9650sts, 02 9650sts. All 35' hydraflex, with sch easy cut and roller guides. One twelve row, one eight. 1000+ bush grain cart, Mt 845 pulling it. Four older fixer upper semis. 4000 acres of corn, 6000 beans. Start early sept and as of now have 2000 acres of corn left and 150 of beans. from south farm to the north farm it is 60 miles. We seem to look for drivers and operators quite often! Someone always shows up!

I currently run 2 9750's and have 4400 acres of corn,1200 acres of pinto's and on an average year have around 1000 acres of wheat. Right now I have about 700 acres of corn left with no major breakdowns.

Guys I used to help out run one combine on 2500-3000 acres of barley, wheat and canola. Claas Mega 208 picking up 36' swaths. Over 2000 hours (can't remember exact number) and not one big breakdown. They run it hard, but take care of the combine and all other equipment meticulously. They are possibly getting a brand new 208 (one of the last manufactured) that's been sitting at a dealer's place for 18 months after a sale didn't work out. list price almost 40% less than a similar-capacity lexion. Also know of a farmer who runs his 3500 acres of barley, wheat and canola through one AF 2388.

sounds like i am plenty over powered. We run a 9650sts w_30ft head and 8 row corn with a 9500 and a 22ft head. Just always use to having two hoping one will always stay running. But with labor problems and ever increasing costs of combines makes a person think things over. I appreciate all the responses.

Perhaps you're not overpowered. It depends on how your harvest season is spread out. Around here everone's crop is usually ready about the same time and if the weather isn't co-operating it make it hard to get to everyone on time. This year the corn was early which made things even crazier than normal. It also depends on if you're doing just your own or doing custom work. It's not a simple, straightforward equation.

Brodale, you make very good points. I should add to my post below that there are some guys who run 3 2388's on 3000 acres, while others run one on almost as much. The difference is that closer to the sea a harvest day is maybe 8 hours, while inland it's pretty much as long as the operator can take. That'll also make a big difference.
