Combines how many grease

I think thy should have done it a long time ago. I have had an axial flow of every series, some gave more trouble than others. I think it was my 1640 the splines went @ about 1500 hrs and when the mechanic reinstalled the pump he discovered that the housing connecting the pump to the pto housing was out of tolerance and the splines never were lined up right. So I suspect that there are spline alignment differences from machine to machine that affect spline life. Just my theory. As far as aligning the zerk, get yourself a 1_2" drive 15_16th rachet and you can turn the engine real easy with the alternater.

We have 2 new 2004 - 2388's and I don't know where that fitting is. If it is inside that little hole, how in the world do you get the grease gun on itIJ

my old 1460 had the drive coupler go out and it was then thay drilled out the pully and installed a zerk. once a year is enough to grease it, I just look as I climb the ladder and do it the trip I see it. it will make the splines lst longer and hepl with ease of seperating the pully if need be.

So does this mean that on late model combines there is a grease zerk that you can see AND get to from that little hole in the pto housingIJ The book calls for grease every 500 hours.

John, Your 1688 does not have that zerk in there to grease. That was just added in the later 2300 series, 03 I think. If the splines have not gone out in the hub in 2700 hrs. they most likely will not ever go out so I wouldn't worry about it. I've had several sets of machinse where they went out on one every 500 hrs. or so and on the other one they never went out the whole time I had it. I came to the conclusion that face of the pump where it bolts up to the pto was not machined accurately at the factor and that ground the splines out prematurely. K.A.

My 2366 was retrofitted with the greasable hub when I replaced the hydro pump, so I don't know what a factory hole looks like, but mine is real simple to see and grease. Just turn the engine till it comes around. My mechanic recommended every hundred hours or so.

I think the hub on my 1680 was replaced before I bought it. There is no hole to grease thru. How do I knowif it is a greaseable hubIJ
