Hi all. How much weight can I haul with my 1/2-ton pickup? How many pounds are in a half-ton safely before it becomes a problem? I'm trying to figure out how many seed corn bags my 2000 Chevy can handle.
The newer the truck, the more it can typically haul. The load capacity should be stated somewhere in the truck. Usually on a sticker on the front door with other specs. If you're still unsure, don't go more than 2 tons.
All I know is I put 1,500lbs off tile in the back of an SUV and it didn't like that but also didn't kill the SUV. Only needed to drive it about 3 miles. Got the job done in one trip. Of course check your owner's manual for the mfg specified capacities.
After that it comes down to how willing you are to replace suspension parts on that 2000 Chevy.
Personally the loads I've hauled have depended on the truck's ability to pull it as well as having clearance and accounting for hills and bumps in the road.
