How many pounds are there in a bale of cotton? I know I should already know this, but how much does a bale of cotton weigh? Are there variables I need to consider? What is the standard?

The U.S. standard is 480 pounds. There are variances but they're minimal. 10 pounds or so, typically. Aside from a bale being slightly oblong instead of a true round, I don't know why variances occur. Sorry.
