I think you folks in Canada were the main users of the last PT machines. Maybe a few just to the south of you too. Probably work well on swathed grain, but not so hot for direct cut. Don't think anyone makes them anymore. Now that good powershift transmissions are common in tractors the PT machines are gone or going. In the US corn is one of the main crops harvested with a combine and I just can't imagine a 6 or 8 row PT combine.

Thanx john,that makes sense,we also only use them for swathed grain up here,I could never figure out why the small acreage farmer would run old small capacity combines,when for the same price they could run a newer (1992)high capacity (1682) I have a naibour with a straight cut grain head on his 1482(its very rare),but never have seen a corn head on a pulltype. I supose the other big crop stateside would be soybeans,how are they usually harvestedIJ

Thanks for the correct information. So many wild stories have been posted on this site. I ran an 8010 and had very few problems and got good service from company rep whos job it was to take care of 8010 problems. I saw the same letter to me its shows they are trying to do this right. Fix problems before production and take of 2003 machines.

Down here in texas, i have never seen a pulltype combine in my life, never seen a pickup header either. No one swaths grain down here. I have enjoyed looking at pictures of them though. How do you select a tractor to pull those machinesIJ Seems like they could be overpowered pretty easily by the four wheel drive tractors of modern day. allen

You are missing out then. Picking up swaths is hard on combines. Rasp bars and everything else wear out faster. Picking up swaths were really hard on the MF combines with their rethreshers. One little rock would tear them up.

I live about 9 miles south of Alberta and the border. There are a few PT combines around here used by the ranchers. When we go up into Canada, there seems to be a lot more and they seem to be cheap. I would probably buy a used one for swaths rather than putting our self-propelled combine through the wear and tear of picking up swaths.

hello everyone is picking up rocks what causes the separation areas to be worn quicker or is it something else. I was just curious b_c there are a few ppl that pick windows up but not many and i was interested in picking up cowpeas that are usually green. But i was just curious what makes them wear quicker thanks

Picking up rocks and dirt. We were having to change rasp bars way more often than normal when picking up swaths in the 70s and 80s. It might vary from region to region with the different type of field conditions, soil types, and rocks. Swathing in my area has mostly gone by the wayside for that reason and because it always seems to rain after swathing.

Here in Mo I have a neighbor who collects AC pull type combines he has 40 or so and in this collection of combines he has three or four pull type corn headed AC combines. They are the only ones I have ever seen. Will

There used to be a lot of pull types in North Dakota, but they are becoming a thing of the past. As said below pull types were mostly used to pickup swaths, But now everyone is straight cutting a lot more. If anyone is curious all of the major manufacturers made pull types at one time or another. If you would go through a salvage lot in ND you would probably see a lot of them. tj
