My wheat looks pretty good, I am going to put some N on in it in a week or so. I just the price were higher. At the current price you can't make any money on wheat so most folks around here are not planting much. I planted a couple hundred acres of no-till wheat on my home farm just to green things up around the house in the winter. The soils on my farm are capable of producing 80-90 bu so I figure unless it turns off real wet this spring I should come out ok on it.

I planted my wheat the day before Thanksgiving which was about three weeks later than I normally plant. It looks like a beard on a fourteen year old blonde headed boy. We have had dry summer,a wet fall and colder and wetter winter than in recent years in North TX with lots of rain and the whaet needs some sunshine and warm soil. I will not top dress for another month at least. Only about 30% of the wheat was planted in our area.

I like RF's analogy. The wheat in Cooke County Texas looks as bad as it has in memory. We drilled some early and it rained about 10 inches on itand spoiled. I drilled 150 acres the day before T-giving also and it is as thin as can be. I doubt the adjuster will release it ,so we are top dressing it. It is supposed to rain here again tomorrow.. our big concern now is getting maize planted on time. If it rains this time , it will already be too late for Corn by the time things dry out.. WW

Its not real great in northwest Oklahoma. The stuff we planted before huge rains in October and November is up but it isn't doing real well. The wheat planted after that hasn't come up. We don't have any calves out yet and the guys that do are feeding them everything they eat. Our county has the lowest wheat acres planted in it since a long time ago.
