Do you know the trick for how to put Teflon tape on? Does it matter if it's going against or with the threading of the pipe?

Okay I'll bite. Get 2-3 good layers on, don't block the opening, and try to get a clean thread started when you are fastening the connection. Then after you've messed up try it again.

putting on teflon tape --- always wrap it so you end up with the end of your wrap the opposite direction of your thread right hand thread usually is what you work with but there are left hand threads to, right hand thread looking at the thread on your left side like a bolt hex head on right side, wrap the tape over the top not under, when you have enough on cut it off, the part you cut off will be facing away from you, not really confusing as it sounds but if you think about it when you thread you piece on you don't want the teflon to unravel or keep tearing off on a right hand thread left hand thread just the opposite

Put it on the male end.
Start a little above the treads.
Hold pipe in the right hand and the tape with the right thumb.
Tape should be up side down so it does not unwind easy.
Wrap the tape in the direction you would thread the female end.
3 to 4 wraps.
Pull or stretch the tape to break it off.
Tight and done.

I always wrap it in the opposite direction that you turn to install.
