Having been with both the deere would win in heavy crops simply because of the fact the 9700 came with 248hp. In wet soils the 9700 just ran out of go,then again when my mate turned up with his years ago it kicked the pants of every other combine in the field.john

Don't know about the White 9700, but keep an eye out on the New Holland CX880 to be released shortly. This could give the 9750 a run.

I think the last year on this model was 1983. The name was changed to 9720 in 1984. I can't remember the exact dates for sure without consulting my archives, but I think that was also the same year M-F broke up, leaving MCC to build the combines. White, already on the verge of bankruptcy even when the 9700 debuted, sold the 9720 and its smaller companion model to MCC in 1984 or 1985. Massey kept the same number on it for a while, then changed it to 8590. I think Massey only kept this one for only a year, maybe 2, but dropped the big 8590, but kept the 8570 well into the AGCO years. I haven't heard of or seen any of these in 5 years, but it doesn't mean they're not around. I posted a search for White 9700 owners on the Massey page, but haven't located any. This is a rare combine, indeed, but one I'm sure could give any of the Class VII machines a run for the money.
