Combines howling N7 main clutch

Usually the howling is why you overhaul the main clutch shaft. You better check the alignment of the two shafts before you tear up all those new parts you put in. If it looks bood I would supect the "football" bearing (funny shaped one).

When my football brg. was out it would growl instead of howling. Sounds more like grinding instead of whining. The howling you are hearing is probably from pins and bushings on disks moving in and out. If it was smooth before, you just need to rotate outer brg. housing untill you get it back in original position. Or if the bolt holes have been ground out to achieve alignment loosen belts and adjust. My dealer put alignment kit on center brg. after first year wore pins and bushings very bad.

the football brg. is on clutch end of short shaft. It has football shaped rollers for running a small amount out of alignment. Only problem is when out of alignment the pins of the clutch will work in and out of the bushings causing whining or howling noise,and excessive wear. The outer brg. is in a housing with 4 square holes for 1_2 carr. bolts. Those holes could be ground out bigger to allow movement for-aft or up-down to get perfect alignment.
