Combines hrs on chain

We always try to replace chains too early rather than too late. Worn chains can wear out sprockets quite rapidly. Sprockets are costly, difficult and a pain to replace compared to chains. Try and check the wear in the chain pins and bushes by the amount of slack lengthways along a stretch of chain compared to a new identical chain that has done a few hours and has got the space filling preservative grease out of its pins and bushes. Harvesting conditions and crop types are more important wear factors than hours.

Well said R.O.M. Most people wouldn't think of running a chain before comparing it to an old one.
