That guy is my neighbour. Farmed for 2 yrs. and now getting out of it. Has about approx. 13,000 ac. of his own and rented approx. 15,000. At harvest he rented 3 or 4 more Case-IH combines; and also had a custom combiner in w_ 3 machines. Pretty impressive site at seeding time seeing 3 66' air seeders in a half section. Seems like a couple of passes and there done. Should be an interesting sale.

Me and my brother were both on days off when it started. It was a close call for the boys. Pretty black and alot of soot U_G; especially in the water area. Have you been to the big auction site yetIJ Is there equipment!!! As for buying land; we'll have to see what it goes for.

Why did he need so many small hopper bottomsIJ I counted over 50 bins, most had hoppers and were less than 10k bu. I had never seen a hopper bottom 23000 bu bin, and they are all so new. This sale alone should drive down the price of hardware, too bad shipping is such a pain. What would it cost to get a hopper bottom to Rochester MNIJ

He went to local auction sales and basically bought every type of bin and equipment there. Plus he bought out AlOT of farmers in the area and he just took there bins that came w_ the land. Nothing wrong w_ small hopper bins; great for seed bins. As hopper bins in large size; an elevator in the area has 6-75,000 bu. hopper bottom bins connected to the main terminal. Get a hold of Bridgeview Manufacturing in Gerald, Sask. (www.bridgeviewmanufacturing.com). They make bolt together hopper bottoms. Cheaper shipping charges.

Rumour is that the farm was financed by oil money. And he had a real passion to farm and he went all in at once. But realized there isn't any money in farming. Plus his 1st year of farming we had a killer frost on Aug. 20. So everyones crop was feed quality. AlOT of the land he rented most likely won't get farmed this year. Unless some Albertans come in and take over. We'll see in a month on what happens.
