Combines hugger ch gearbox seals

I wouldn't even think to check mine daily. I run several thousand acres ever year and my gear boxes have never been down more than 1.5". Is he using the corn head greaseIJ Does he put it through the bottom or just fills it from the topIJ My 2 cents Kurt

Same here..check preseason and run all through harvest, usually without checking or adding grease. (As long as I see the gearboxes clean on the outside I figure the grease is not leaking out). I'm wondering if the guy is over greasing and blowing out the sealsIJ

The grease fittings would not close up on our first hugger the grease just ran out when it got warm. Replaced them with plugs and never had any more problems. Just changed them to fill once a year.

Check to 3_8 bolts that hold the halves of the gearbox together. Had loose bolts on one unit of a new hugger head that was leaking grease.

No, not overgreasing, he is very careful. The zerks are worth checking out though. I did hear of a corn head stored upright for a year or so in freezing weather possibly having problems of water getting between seals and feezing. But if this is the case more would exhibit the symptom.

Crawled under the hugger head last night to adjust the knives and one of the grease fittings was dripping grease. looked like it had just started since the gear box was not low.
