Chrome snapping roll blades are not available aftermarket or OEM.(They should be!!!)You would need to purchase standard blades and then send them in to be chromed.last time I checked AandI Products had the least expensive blade that we were buying and then sending in to have chromed.We have not replaced a set of chrome blades yet and have lost track of how long it has been since they were installed but 7-10 yrs. at least.Chroming is expensive(6-row cornhead around $2400 for new blades and chrome.) but the longivity is the key.One of the first set of chrome blades is on the third cornhead. Was the whole blade chromedIJ looks to me that if the front 6" was chromed that would be all you needIJ I have built up the front edges in the past and it only takes a bead about 4-6" to bring them up in shape. Chromed spirals, now that would be NICE!

Is there different kinds of chrome, far as hardnessIJ The reason I ask is a former employee of mine just started up a chroming shop, mainly to chrome motorcycle parts. If I had him chrome new flutes, would it hold up. Thanks Tim

Definitely a difference in chroming applications. You have the pretty polished chrome with not much thickness or hardness.Then you have industrial chrome that has a dull color and some thickness and lot higher Rockwell hardness. Hyper Harvest II

We ended up having the whole blade chromed because by the time you spend having the chroming supplier wax off the areas that you don't want chromed you end up with more in labor and chroming blade versus dipping the whole blade and chroming it completely.labor is what kills you if you have to add more steps to the chroming process.Normally the blades are coated with three to four layers to end up with .010-.012 thickness. Yes,we have some spirals chromed. Problem with chroming spirals is getting the chrome where it is needed.The ones we had done ended up having most of the chrome on the outer portion of the spiral and it did not want to flow down into the valleys.I don't think this is a problem but how long they will last and how they will wear is yet to be seen. No deck plates chromed yet.If money isn't the limiting factor you could probably chrome anything you wanted.Still playing with some different stripper plate designs.Jury is still out on what works best with least head shelling especially with 16% corn or less.
