I kept filling in and building up until last year I finally replaced the whole plate as mine were getting thin and cracking. They were the original plates on an early model hugger....('93)IJ Probably saw 25,000 acres or more.

Hyper Harvest II I think did the keystock thing.I don't think it's in the Mod's section.I think he said they cut off at the back where you could still reach with welder.I think they mounted them flush with top of plate.Started at back and worked foward.A little heat to bend the corner.WAllAAH!!!Used stainless alloy(IJ)Factory stuff isn't too special...maybe cold rolledIJlooks like like it would be simple enough to do.

We replaced our round stock with keystock. The keystock definately is hanging in there better, but I think the square edges shatters more corn than the round stock edge does. I am not sure if we will go back to keystock next time.

Don't like the thought of more head shelling. We shell plenty when corn gets under 17% and I don't want to add to it.

Whoever came up with this originally,believed there was less row shelling VS factory rod_position.

Sidekick summed it up pretty well on installation and it is definitely flush with top edge. We used stainless steel keystock.So far far it is still working well.The only thing I am disappointed in is how fast the stainless steel keystock lost it's square edge.As for shelling at the stripper plate,that has definitely been reduced.The old round rod design that Gleaner has is one of the worst for head shelling.look at any other MFG. and they are all using some kind of inverted stripper design where ear is removed from stalk.Engineers need to take a hard look at this area and get it redesigned.look how long it has taken to get a full fingered auger.Price is another issue on the stripper plates.We compared prices of two other brands and found the AGCO stipper plates 2-3 times the price. Here in south central I had a local welder build up the rod and snapper knife for a fraction of the cost of new. If stripper plate is to worn one may have to replace it. My plate had only one year of use from new so it made it easier to resurface.
