AR - I would use trial and error on the spring setting - just tight enough to not open under normal combining. On the drum settings, I leave the rear set on corn but do change the front back and forth as I change crops.
Yes you likely have to snug springs a bit for the added weight on door and some continuous pressure of crop. Also helps a bunch to extend third helical over top left corner of feeder opening. We have left feeders in grain position for all crops ever since the shock kits were installed.
