I changed an M2 from 2.5 to 3 and didnt have a problem with slow lift. Maybe it had the bigger pump and I didnt know it. Why did you change cylindersIJ Were you having a hard time lifting a bigger headIJ Tom in MN

Tom, Refresh my memory please, was it my M2 or my F that had a way on the spool valve to open up the flowIJ I was thinking it was the M2 when I put the 6-30 on it. You can also change the rate of drop or reaction time on that valve stack. The only time the pump would slow down at 17gpm was it several things are being used at the same time. If he thinks about it that is 3.5 5 gal buckets of oil every 60 sec and there isn't that many hydraulic items being used constantly.

John I dont recall changing flow when I went from a 4 row head to a 6. Maybe there is an adjustment on the flow divider but I know I never changed anything. The parts book lists 2 pumpsa hydro and non-hydro. That could be the reason for a larger capacity pump. The reaction time adjustment is a 7_16 screw on the side of the header spool if I recall correctly. Tom in MN

I installed 3" cylinders because I went to 20"rows and built a 7 row header (from a 1163 MF). Header works great for corn, but response is slow for grain header. The M2 manual lists two pumps for the non hydro model. The small pump is a 14GPM and the larger one is a 17GPM. I believe I have the 14GPM. Header tends to dig in when going over uneven ground (ditches),even at slow ground speed. I am aware that the rate of header drop can be adjusted but I am not aware of any adjustment to the rise. From your comments I gather that header rise rate is adequate with the standard Gleaner pump. I will look into replacing my 14 GPM pump with the 17GPM. Thankyou for the discussion.

Tom, Yes, that is the reason for the bigger pump was the Hydro. But the reaction and flow were adjustable on the stack, you are correct on the reaction and I just can't remember on the flow, but mine had to be boosted as it was not a Hydro, and lifting the head and swinging the auger in or out got real SlOOOW. Adjustment was made and mine was fine then with the 6-30.

ehhh don't think pump is the problem. The rate of raise should be the same in manual as well as auto. We slow the rate of raise down to 6 or 7 seconds on the new combines to prevent bounce. On l,M,s there is a pole piece_spindle in the master lift valve that can stick and cause slow raising or sometime a lag. It has a teflon washer that can wear a grove in the thin 2" long poppet spindle. Check it out.

I think I may have been misunderstood. My M which is a non hydro originally had 2.5" lift cylinders and I believe the 14GPM pump. I changed the cylinders to 3" but did not change the pump. There is a 17 GPM pump available for the non hydro M. When you refer to the rate of rise of 6 to 7 seconds do you mean from fully lowered to fully raised. I would like to check this. Don Smith
