Combines hypering p1

I removed my cage sweep several years ago and wouldnt even consider putting it back in my P1. I can't say anything about small grains because I only raise corn and soys. Removing the overfeed auger is a new one on me. Good luck and let us know how it works for you. Tom in MN

I just removed the arms that sweep the cage but left bar and track in. When Hyper II installed a seperator grate in mt N6 last summer he just removed the tray under the overfeed auger and left the auger in. This way the tray doesn't fill up with garbage. Pete Hinrichsen

I can't think of a single left to right cage sweep still in place around hear. We have all sorts of crops including long tough straw wheat. Keeping in mind all machines also have helical arrangements that flow straw very well (hyperized). For aft sweeps that were used in latest R60and 70's are no trouble and very easy to maintain so they are still in. All cage covers removed except for far right and far left behind concave as well as the one just to left of center cage seam. Some machines we built up wall above left concave adjusting area to go about to mid point of top of cage (that prevents straw from hanging and building above left concave arm area). Got to love how cage area is cleaned up without sweep in there. Cage sweeps went out of existance in '92 two largest machines when Gleaner increased free area around cage like they did on the smaller earlier R40and50s. I believe over feed auger and trough met their demise when P3 prosesser was placed in R60and70 but there was likely a package to install it if you had tailings return to cylinder and wanted to just reclean tailings instead of rethresh also. The R40and50s had a lever to swing if you had tailings return to cylinder package and wanted to switch where tailings were going as did the larger two machines eff.in '92 R62and72. Anyway we have all over feed augers removed as well as trough. Some have reinstalled just auger if they have tailings return to cylinder package if they are running super heavy return in some crop and want to spread tailings across concave a little better. Without overfeed auger and trough installed the crop exiting cage at top front area above feeder concave area will get rethreshed but I believe that is very little and a N5 has them cage panels blanked anyway. Most all that area is blanked anyway on all machines for the last 10 plus years so I would have no worries leaving that stuff out. With any mod you want to monitor area you monkeyed with close in your various crops in the event you need to address something. One thing with no cage sweep you want to be double sure you have prosessor doors latched and locked and every day inspect cage area or at least bang on the door to get an idea if there is internal plugging. N7. Mid 1980's. We cut a large hole in the overfeed auger trough, under the auger,close to the R.H end where returns come in. Made a plate to closely fit the hole. Plate was removed for returns to thresher. Put in when returns went direct back to sieves. Never took the trough out again.
