tbran, Still like the chrome snapping roll blades. We do have some chrome spirals which we have not run yet. Have heard about Pixall style blade on the 2008 cornheads but have not seen any pictures yet.One bottle neck on Hugger head is still transition area between spiral and blade as this is the area that sees the most wear. The stripper plates need a major change as head shelling with rod style is wat too excessive.Have played with welding different style stripper edges to existing plate with mixed results. Of course have tried stainless steel square keystock welded flush that has worked but still wears.Have also used edge from Cat cornhead that has inverted taper and that has worked well. looked at Calmers stripper plates and his have a lot of merit alsne difference about Hugger gearbox and Deere gearbox is that it sounds like Hugger gearbox is far longer life than Deere. Chrome inverted stripper plates would get my vote with chrome blades that are sharpened similar to Pixall blades. The only time to have lugs on gathering chains stick past stripper plate is in down corn. Sermon is over, Hyper Harvest II

Dave I just came back from the Commodity Classic in Nashville. I looked at Calmers head. The stripper plates tipped or angled down as you approached the edge of the plate. Is that what you were referring to on the Cat plates when you said "inverted"IJ Marion said that it reduced the amount of shelling by providing a bigger contact area that matched the shape of the base of the ear. Sounds logical to me. I definitely agree with you that the transition between spirals and blades is a bottleneck. I'd like to talk with you sometime about experiences with chroming blades and spirals. Keep preaching, I'm sitting up and awake in the pew. Gamaman
