I suspect a lot of people have gone through the dilema you have. I did and looked at all kinds of so called solutions to not having a chopper. From what I saw none of them worked. Finally, in the spring of 1998 I bit the bullet and bought a new 2366 chopper for my late 1981 model 1460. I had to buy an old style quill shaft also, as the new one has only 3 splines, and the older ones had four. Since then I have never looked back. What a world of difference!!! No more tillage problems afterwards. looking back, I think that while expensive, it was a real good investment and the resale value improved significantly. At least my frustration level doing tillage afterward was reduced to virtually zero.

Hey steve, My dad and i had a Redekop chopper installed on a 1460 and i tell you what that thing has done wonders to spring tillage-for example before the chopper the feild cultivator would always clog up with soybean stalks but now not a worry its a thing of the past. weve had it three seasons now and the only thing i would really recomend you do if you get it is to keep the blades sharp other than that it looks like the newer choppers on the sts deere combines . oh ya dont set the rear axle all the way out because the rear tires dont need to be. anyway i hope this helps farming caseih
