That popping out of gear was what was wrong with my K2. Yes, it was a bad bearing, unfortunately for me, I needed to replace the whole transmission because the parts of that bad bearing chewed up some gears. Depending where you are, CJ Wonsidler Brothers in Quakertown, PA, has a good complete E transmission. They took it out thinking it would fit my K2, but bolt holes were different.

Your separator clutch is most likely slipping. I had this happen just 4 weeks ago on my '76K. Best way to know for sure is by having someone observe the machine while you're harvesting. Anyway going from memory, the fix is easy enough: Just remove the pressure linkage then carefully remove the bearing(i used a small puller)then remove bell housing cover. Inside you will see a cogged adjustment wheel about 7" diameter. from what i recall there are some bolts to loosen then using a pry-bar and hammer you tap the cogged wheel counterclock wise a few notches. reverse steps to reassemble. the operators manual includes a short description of the clutch adjustment procedure as well. You'll be amazed at the power you get back! (Again note: be real careful with taking that bearing off)

If you have a variable speed cylinder drive check and see if all three large bolts that go through the sheaves are not broken. Had this problem myself and couldn't figure out what it was until I had someone run beside me to see what was going on. Had the same tranny troubles cracked the tranny case, had to get a new one from a wrecker. Temp sounds ok, its probably cold outside.

Re: temperature...could be a thermostat stuck open !IJ! Cheap and easy preventative maintenance.
