I've got three old 50's era combines I wanted to get running again but with spending most our time on keeping the later "antiques" running on the place for harvest, I'll probably not get around to it. I think it would be great if more guys would fix up older combines like they do the tractors, but like Deerbines said there are few that want to fix them up and alot combines go for scrap. Of course parts and transport of old combines for showing can be a real pain, but when a farmer fixed up a large old pull type IH with draper header and ran it one Sunday it was a major show in the area. I wouldn't junk them if you don't need to. Combines that have been sitting outside for decades can be a pain in the @n$n$@ restoring. I restored a 1941 John Deere 12A combine with a lUH engine. It was missing alot parts, the bottom was rusted out, I had to overhaul the engine and I had to rebuild the straw rack. Spent two years on it. However, I think there is nothing more rewarding than restoring a combine and watching it work in the field. Restored combines usually attract people at threshing bees. We took our 12A to the local threshing bee and it was the hit of the show. It was even in the newspaper. The club also owns a Massey 26 or 27 that has cut 300 acres it's whole life and has been kept inside all these years. The paint is so bright that it hurts your eyes.
