Tom, Sorry to hear about your crop. A lot of work, planning, and money goes into it then in 10 minutes it's all for none. If you have some hail insurance along with crop insurance, that sure helps. A couple of years ago I had a similar situation happen on beans that were hailed out. So I got the insurance for them and planted a milo crop and had a fair crop of that. So, two crops in one year worked out. Doesn't happen very often though. Good luck.

That happened to a 2 acre soybean patch of mine last year. 20 minutes of hail on July 18th. I couldn't replant and they yielded 6 bu_acre. The hail killed about 70 percent and the 30 percent left were severely stunted. Hail insurance is a good thing.

Tom, I am very sorry to read about your loss, where are you locatedIJ I am from Michigan 20 miles south east of Grand Rapids on the west side of the state. We are about 2 to 3 weeks away from cutting our wheat. It has been very wet but no hail as of yet, last year around the first of July we had hail that did some damage to our corn and wheat but not enough to make a claim with our insurance. John

Beans seem to stand hail more than they actually do. A few years ago, the hail adjuster said damage on the plant allows some kind of mold to enter the plant causing yield to drop. I think those hail guys know what they are talking about.

We have decent ground that isnt subject to flooding so crop insurance is a poor buy for us. Our major fear is hail so we typically buy as much as the state insurance commissioner allows. It is nice to get the payment 2-3 weeks after having a loss instead of waiting until after harvest as with crop insurance.

Bad luck Tom...We are always moaning about the weather here in the UK,but it pales into insignificance compared to what you guys get over the pond there.

I got hail damage about two weeks ago on 1_3 of my acres. Beans do handle it better than others crops. I got at least 70% of my wheat yield. Probably about 50% on the soybeans.
