Did the same thing to 1640 in heavy corn seperator belt idler 1640 was same idler arm as the 1680's not sure if 2188 is any different tho

Are you sure the little stub shaft you broke is not part of the bearing assembly its selfIJ On my 1480 (may not be anything like the 2188) the only stub shaft on the pulley end is the bearing shaf assembly. If I remember right you just press the bearing shaft out of the cast idler arm and then press the bearing out of the pulley. No other shafts on it except where it pins on to the housing in order for it to pivot. May not be like yours, just trying to help.

our 1688 is the same as your 1480 shaft and bearing are together ours wore right off almost burned the outfit up

I believe this is correct. I've never known a seperator idler arm on one of these where the bearing didn't press out and back in.

you have an replaceable engagement shaft that's pressed into the arm along below the bearing. never seen one shear, only cut pretty good where the engagement cylinder operates against it. what you're probably seeing is the water pump style bearing that the idler pulley presses onto sheared off. your local dealer has seen this plenty, i'm sure....
