Combines IH 1460 Transmission Road Speed

You either have a real low geared transmission or it is not going into third gear all the way. My 1660 got that way. I mean it would not go into third gear all the way and would realy be in second gear and only go about 12 mph. The cure was I had to get under the transmission and emeryoff and oil the inch diamter shaft that goes through the transmission. Where it sticks through rusts and will not move back and forth and will not shift gears. Hope this helps.

Don't forget to check the plate that the hydro cable fastens to at the hydro pump. You would be surprised how much slop can occur there. We picked up over 4mph on road travel on our old 1460 when we replaced it.

I have 2 '81 1460's. 1 has 28l*26 tires and a road speed in 3rd of 11.5mph!!

if your combine is a rice machine it will be slower in all speeds but should move like a tank
