Combines Ih 3 inch VS Sch 3 inch

So far, I think it's been unanimous on the Talkshow: Everyone who has the SCH likes it and recommends it over all others. Kind of hard to argue with that. Maybe buy plenty of spare parts if you think that could be a problemIJ

Currently using the SCH and as I have posted before am very happy with it. Definitely worth the extra cost up front. As for parts I have yet to use the extra guards and sections that came with the original kit. I believe SCH has been around for a while and they seem to be at all the farm shows that I go to. But as Farm Kid2 posted if you are concerned about parts order a few extra guards and sections when you get the kit. Good luck. bob

Bob, What all is included in the SCH kitIJ Do you change just the sickle sections, gaurds, and hold down clips or is it a whole new sickle. I think I've even seen on the Deere site where they change the wobble box also. K.A.

We had the 1 1_2" on and we put the SCH 3" on and we like it. You will have to change the drive pulley so it will run faster. After you have it on I would check all the bolts, last year we had one section that came off, I checked the others and some was loose, after that they are staying tight. We have not broke a section or guard, it is worth the money.

SCH is great, we changed one of our combines and liked it so well we did our second combine too.

K.A., the kit for my 25ft. 1020 included a new sickle bar in 2 pieces, knifehead, sections, and guards. There was probably a dozen extra sections and one extra guard included. You completely remove the old knife assembly and all of the old guards and holddowns. I did not replace my wobble box. You may need to replace the drive pulley and belt if you are replacing a 1 1_2 inch system. It is a very easy and straight forward installion that can be done in an afternoon. Bob

The complaint in my area is that the SCH does not get as close to the ground as the Case. Some guys turned the knife head over and mounted the knife under the mounting bar. It was a big help but not easy to do. I run the SCH about 6-10 years ago and have been running the Case 3" since. When the SCH is new it is fine, but the edges on the gaurds get rounded and so on... I found the replacement parts expensive. I believe that the 1.5" is the best cutting system "if" you are willing to spend the time every day adjusting and willing for the $$'s in replacement parts. I had it before the SCH. Just my 2 cents!

BJN, I had that problem until I tilted the front of the feederhouse forward. Then it was cutting so close that I was picking up dropped ears of corn from the previous year. How many acres did you have on the SCH bar when the guards were getting roundedIJ bob

I got the pulley from my dealer. Its the pulley that is on the 1020 for the 3" knife. when you have 1.1_2 knife they run the knife slower. When you you get the kit from SCH they will have directions in with it, it will tell you what to do with the pulleys, if you want it to go faster, they will tell you to get a John deere pulley, but I didn't cause I didn't want a green pulley on my red head..
