I wouldn't even think of going back to a 915 my 2166 with the specialty rotor lets me start early and go later just tigten up concave and speed up rotor when its tough

Corn King: Doesn't that send more out the back of the machine and damage more of the grain that actually ends up in the binIJ

Rotarys are different, dont get fooled into thinking conventional adjustment compared to rotary in the threshing rotor, sieves and air for sieves are same but not threshing rotor.

The early 1440 cost only a few thousand more than what a late 915 brings. It is like comparing a two cylinder John Deere tractor to the 4010. Same manufacturer but entirely different universe. The rotor will do everything a cylinder machine can in any conditions.

I would have some concerns over parts availability for a 915. My neighbor had an 815 and he was starting to have problems finding parts for it. He finally sold it for salvage and I do his work for him now. My uncle has a 1460 and he much prefers it over his previous 915.

I know I'll have a lot of people disagree with me. Had a 1680 rotor and a 8820 John Deere . 1680 went home when beans got tough and the Deere stayed a few more hours.

I dont know where this comes from about rotary cant handle crops early in the day or very late, in fact in Iowa where I am quite the opposite is true, if you have problems with std rotor in green crops put toothed bars on back of rotor, part 1302103C3, only drawback is it chews up straw too much for baling. The specialty rotor doesnt need anything except more horsepower. Its like all these combine experts used to conventional machines comparing feeder house width, its not the same with a rotary, even JD puts a narrower feeder on STS than 9650 walker.

I am more concerned about threshing quality than getting out early in the morning and staying out late at night. All the samples I see from rotaries at Husker Harvest Days don't seem to match up to the Deere samples. I want a conventional for that reason as well.
