I was one of the few around here that had JD a 78-7700 with 643 head majotiry had IH and later CIH . always seemed to me that they spent a lot more repairing their IH heads , lots more parts .They always said the IH heads chewed up the stalks better than the Deere heads . I'm talking about the 8,9and100 series heads , don't knoh much about the newest Red heads . Don't know anyone who runs IH heads on JD combine . Three JD 643's here on CIH machines though , my 1660 is one of them , another is a fellow who went to a 1680 and kept his 643 head . last one had IH 863 got tired of fixing it and traded it for a 643 , these three heads are all 1978 models . We all have the Bish Adapters. Another party around here traded Deere to CIH heads and all but says except for chewing up the stalks better he wishes he'd kept the Deere head . Too much upkeep and tin is all brokeup in three years . The Deere heads might cost more but in the long run they hold up better . I like the 1660 , easier to work on etc. but I would never put a CIH cornhead on it. My $0.02 . JIM
