Combines IJ about upgrades

A good upgrade is to go to P3 style cages, which have the larger holes, and which will also not allow straw_chaff build up where door braces were before on the P1 seperator.

Because of the age and reputation of the N6 I am not certain you will get your money out of upgrading from resale. You will recoup your investment from better grain samples, lower rotor loss, reduced load on motor and cage, plus increased capacity. I did everything in the upgrade section with the exception of the seperator grate three years ago for less that $1000, this summer I plan on installing the grate with channel helicals to complete the upgrade(~$2000). I have gotten along very well without the grate but I custom combine some ground now that requires me to go too slow to keep the machine full so the grate should cut down the rotor loss. Doing an underhaul(bearings and rod bolts) at 2500-3000hrs is cheap insurance (~$1500). I also pulled the pump on my 81 N6 and had it recalibrated to put out 220hp at N5 rpms about 2-300 rpms slowers. The 82 and newer N6's (series 3) are already slowed down. The neighbor who I custom combine for and who wears green underwear is extrememly impressed with the capacity and performance of my "hyperized" N6. All in all I feel the upgrades are worth it from a performance standpoint which will ultimately affect your bottom line. Good luck, Pete Hinrichsen
