Combines IJ for Camshaft

We had a similar situation with an R5 we wanted to use with a 500 series head. We ended up finding the parts from a scrap yard machine that included the hoses and the auto reel speed control. The plumbing is fairly simple. The reel drive just borrows the hydro charge line oil for a while. You connect in just before the hydro filter. The electric control valve simply diverts a portion of the hydro charge line flow to the reel circuit on its way to the hydro. The auto reel speed controller worked fine when we found the speed signal line from the R5 console. It was a fairly easy job to connect both electrically and hydraulically. Problems we have noticed since this mod are a slight hesitation in the hydro when the hydro lever is advanced quickly. We have also noticed that the reel speed slows when turning quickly either right or left. We suspect that the R5's lack of a separate hydro charge pump may be the reason. At least some of the later gleaners have a separate charge pump for the hydro. Some R60's have them. I'm not sure if we are doing any damage to our hydro with this setup. Any ideas out thereIJ

Hi FHB, I bought a 30' MacDon and of course it was from a newer machine. Since I bought it half way through harvest and I wanted to get going in a hurry I clamped a flow control outside the cab door and ran it from the Kirby chaff spreader hydraulic pump. Mickey mouse set up, but it got me through harvest. I plan to check with Macdon to see how they ran the reels on the older R combines, I'm thinking all I need is an electric flow control valve and then use Macdon hydraulics. The trick is to get the flow control to work with the switch in the cab. If not maybe I'll campaign wrecking yards to see if I can update my combine to newer system
