Combines IJ for dakota on Y M

I don't own one but had a precision ag class at the university and if i remember right most combines use a impact plate in the top of clean grain that uses a potentiometer to calculate the mass going through machine. The only problem with this setup is an uneven terrain affects the pressure on plate (i.e. up and down hills) more and less pressure because of gravity and also the sample going through return if it has quite a bit of dirt or etc. that would attach to the plate and make the reading incorrect. As for the CAT they supposedly use an electronic eye to measure the mass being harvested. I think it has a ground level sensor mounted on front axle that helps keep the light sensor caliberated on uneven terrain. I think this is much more accurate than most.

The lexion uses a laser beam across the elevator. That way the sensor looks how big the pile is on the paddle. In addition there is a level sensor mounted to the front axle to make up for the tilt of the combine. Both need to be calibrated once. One day in wheat harvest I had time to measure a bin full of wheat and send it to town separately. The monitor showed 302 bushel and the elevator ticket 298 bushel. That would be about 1.3% off. The yield monitor was only calibrated by guesssing at that time and I used this elevator ticket to do a precise calibration. later on we harvested a poor spring wheat crop. I had a good operator on this calibrated machine, who kept his header full all the time. The monitor was reading 8.8 bu_acre average after all the fields were done. After figuring our elevator tickets we had 8.8 bu_acre. How much closer can you getIJ

Could you go into a little more detail on this y.m. Is there any one else that has this set upIJ I use feildstar and agleader in my two machines. The feild star all ways needs readjusting were as the agleader dose not need as much adjusting, but still dose. How dose this system work on the catsIJ Please help me out. Colin

Dakota, with the cat yield monitor measureing the height of the pile, do you have to recalibrate for differnt bushelweights. Pete

Yes, you would have to recalibrate for different bushel test weights. The Cat uses a sensor that comes from Europe, I can't think of the name of the company but the sensor itself is fairly accurate and doesn't have to be cleaned as often as the impact sensors do. Overall accuracy doesn't seem to be any better than anything else on the market. Kelly
