I am located 20 minutes north of Brandon @ Rapid City. Yes that salesman is selling Macks now, looks like we are in the same area, where are youIJ Have not tried an STS yet, they have not brought us one to try, closest opportunity is when 50 series came out a neighbor got a demo and everyone was told to come and see it, that didnt work to well as too many people, too little time. last deere demo was a 95, 9600. I cant knock deere too bad on this as only other demo since then has been a NH 840. I know demos cost dealers some $ to operate but I test drive vehicles before I purchase, I wont buy a combine without a demo. I dont always know when I am going to purchase a machine so a demo from time to time to at least give an idea as to how a machine runs is most helpful. For instance we have been looking @ spayers as of late for a future purchase and had not given the deere much thought for whatever reason but they happened to offer us a demo so we took it and the deere has moved to top of our list at present.

I am at brookdale not that far from you. Yes Keith demoed a 9760, It was ok but it dose not have that much more capisity in wheat then our 72 we lease. My cousin has a 9700 white and that machine was keeping right up with the two big boys, dads little N6 was doing all right good sample and all but not the balls the 9760 or 72 or the 9700 had. I am with you I have to try a piese of equipment before we buy it.Have you thought of getting a Nitro sprayer,I demoed one last year and moved the JD form the top of my list to second after the nitro was here, one nice thing with the nitro is that you can pull the booms off and hang a a swather head on it, so you get more out of the unit.

Have not tried a Nitro, have been interested, like the idea of the booms out front for visibility, just not wanting to ask for one until closer to purchasing, all the other 3 demos were offered to us so we said sure, probably will drive to Drummonds later on this fall if they have one on the lot to be snooppy.

we have 40 acres of barley left and 200 acres of wheat. It should not take to long to cover with the three machines as long as the N6 and 9700 will hold up it has been a tough year for them. The 72 has been running great after we changed the bearings in the rotor gear box. You don't live north of rapid city just before ten highway on the north side of the road. Your neghbour used to run a R70 then a tx newholland then a cat. If it is the place i am thinking of I was riding around withthe combine operator back in 96 at that time you were just running a 62.

This is me. You are on the low road to shilo right. You have your farm on the south side of the low road you have an AC tractor and a versatile 4wd and you just got a seed hawk air drill. Our crops were no hell we lost alot to the wet spring plus the big rains in july. How was your crops, how do you like your kitty cat(yuck). Don't you wish you still had your gleaner

Yep, that's us. Our crops were also poor, they had just recovered nicely from the june monsoon when the july rains hit, they were never able to recover from them. I love the Cat, big capacity, good sample, reliable. We tried some other machines out this year (CR 970, 9860sts),both were pretty good machines, especially the CR, but not good enough for us to trade. The 480r had them both beat, especially the sts. No regrets about leaving gleaner, I think its probably added 5-10 years to my dad's life!

How did you like the CR. We had a 9790 mf out as well as a 9760 jd. We really like the MF great power and it was hungry, it stayed with the 72 really well, the jd was an other subject. poor grain sample and it just did not have the performance that we were looking for.

The CR has an incredible cab, large and very quiet. The road speed reminded me of a gleaner, which I liked. The single point hook-up was nice. It was leaving a few white caps in wheat, but I think we could have solved that with filler plates. Capacity wise I would say it was similar to our 480r until it got tough, apparently next year they will have a boost to 440hp so that should help out. I wish the hopper extensions folded down hydraulically into a cover like the CAT, but we had to get up and do it manually and then you were still left with a large opening for rain to get into. The chopper was great, but I think if I was getting one I would order it without the chopper and stick a MAV on, only the MAV can achieve spreads of 36ft+. I think a MAV would also help the sts.
