No, we have found - in our conditions- that just leaving out the reverse bars with nothing in place of them works fine. The rest of the bars do the threshing and conveying just fine. The bar you mention is the backup brace we have removed from prior upgrading machines by shortening the discharge paddles and extending the cyl bars. The result of this needed change leaves 8 of these little buggars as spares. Bolting in these slightly sharpened lugs on the star supports in the space left by the now missing reverse bar gives the cylinder a lug that slices and pulls through any roped material and slugs. I need to stress if you use this tip on a R40-42-50-52 you must SHORTEN the backup piece to the height of the cyl bar or else it will hit the grate when you close the clearance down for wheat.
