Steve, that used to be what Case recommended. However, they have changed their thinking on this recently. The latest factory machines have 3 tall spreaders on each spinner and that's it, no little bats anymore. Now, you will want a bat on the lH spinner to line up with a blank spot on the RH spinner where there used to be a small one and vice-versa(the mounting holes are still in the spinners, but have nothing mounted to them anymore. Should a guy remove every other paddle on our 1688 we have three tall three short need to spread 30ft fast pully installed.

John, we seemed to have the best luck removing the short paddles entirely, but you can try it either way.
