I am looking at my book of service bulletins and the only thing have found so far on Main clutch shaft Campaigns was back in 1994.. Bulletin n22 campaign n fe813.. It is very serial number specific and deals with 1994 and pre 1994 machines... Ask your dealer to see a copy of the bulletin ( this is not top secret info) it should be filed under the separator section in his combine bulletin book.. If your combine did qualify and did not get the up date for free.. Ask them to call AGCO and see what they can do,, The only other bulletin I have found talks about torqueing the the nut to 450-600 ftlbs.. Bulletin n23 4_25_96 for 1995 and up combines.. Hope this helps

4000 dollars to replace that bearing. Because Agco updated that shaft and you can no longer get the shaft that was in the combine so that means all new hubs and bearings on the other side of the machine and I am ripped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why would they no longer offer the shaft that was standard equipment on the machine. Just so I have to buy all the other parts on the other side too! Ive have had it with Agco colors are going to change on this farm if this dont change.

Is it possible to to take your shaft to the machine shop and have it changed to fit the bigger bearings, I know of a guy that did that to his 93 R62. We had that bearing go out once on our 94 and the shaft got dinged up and the machine shop splatter welded it back to spec and it is still running now with that same shaft. I wish I would have known about that bigger bearing so that I could have put it in then, but I don't think they had made that change at that time.

Sorry to hear of your predicament. Usually the factory notifies dealers of updates. Then it is up to the dealer to contact the customer. Folks who buy equipment from who knows where at sales lose the dealer_end user connection so there is no mechanism to inform customers to get machines updated. Some dealers are very good at following up with factory updates; others arent. In defense of the latter group, it is my observation that some companies are chippy when it comes to paying for warranty work. Tom in MN

After they got it back together we had to run it for a couple hours then they re torque the big nut on the right side. It did tighten up a little. They said that all of them should be checked every once in a while so I checked the R 72 and it didnt move. So you should check this nut to make sure yours isnt loose. Is that what could have made that bearing go outIJIJIJIJ If anyone needs the old style sheaves let me know I could get you one cheap!!!!!!!!!!!

What exactly is the old style sheaveIJ We just had the nut work loose and ruin the variable speed rotor sheaves that run on the splines on the main counter shaft on right side. How can I tell if I have the old sheaveIJ How can I tell if I have updated bearingIJ We bought this machine 2 yrs. ago to replace an R50 but had to keep R50 because the R62 isn't reliable. Either weve had more trouble than most, it's just a lemon, or they are all trouble. Replaced bearing on right side twice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this shaft_bearing_sheave update unique to R62, or does it apply to R72 as wellIJ Was kicking the tires of a 93 R72 on a dealer's lot recently. How can I tell if the update was doneIJ

Easy boy! I understand why you're upset, but that's why the fine print on all implement publications, even sales literature states something to the effect of, "(Company name) reserves the right to change this machine's specifications at any time and without obligation to notify the consumer." Even so, I hate it too when I find out that I have to buy more than I was planning to. The shaft update you are talking about, however, was done on all '01 model year R62_72 combines and involves the right hand side of the clutchshaft. The design of the shaft and variator sheave halves have changed so as to maintain the right clutchshaft bearing preload with greater reliability than the old system. It is the loss of bearing preload that caused a greater than average number of failures from what I understand. So I would recommend checking the torque on the retaining nut fairly frequently with a BIG torque wrench. 600 ft lbs is correct and is a lot. The new design is the only one available because it is an improvement, and we certainly don't want to be mad at a company for improving a product, lest we still be harvesting with "new" 2001 '79 model N6s.

As far as I know the 62 and 72 have the same shafts. The pins in the sheave will be alot larger pins ,that is how you can tell from the outside. As far as I know other then that the nut and washer might be a little different.

G-Man, As ripped as I am about this I cant complain about the 62 as far as a whole. We bought the 62 in the fall of 94 new. And it has been a real dependable machine. What rips me is if there is an update of some sort I think the customer should be notified. And it could be fixed when it is under warranty.Or if the company know its a problem area it should be taken care of in my opinion. Your question about the sheave is that it has alot bigger pins in it, on the new style.
