I understand what your saying to a point. Yes it would be more costly to make both shafts and yes it is an improvement. But!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its not right to me or you to have to buy more things then went bad because they finally fixed a problem that they have had in the past. Your telling me that your happy to buy an update because they made a weak spot and then fixed it a few years later at your expense. Why would you hold up for crap like that. I lost a 97.OO bearing that is now costing me 4000.00 to fix.And you call that an improvement. Yea in Agcos parts pockets

Thanks for the explanation. I guess I would want the new parts if I had to go through the trouble of changing something as complicated as the main clutch shaft. Thanks for the reminder to keep that nut tight. I have seen the warning in one of the manuals but havent done the tightening as often as it should be done. Tom in MN

To bad I didn't see you needed an original shaft. We still have one on the shelf from almost 10 years ago. I've never had a mainshaft out of one of these machines yet. We've replaced a few bearings that were getting noise and a couple that went out. Never had one hurt the shaft but we were checking them nuts at post delivery. If nut had been tightened just once after machine was run in I'm sure shaft would still be OK. I'm sure varibles would of remained unchanged too over the years if nuts would of just been checked after run in. Gleaner did make changes in that area to help make it more fool proof plus as HP increases so does the need for more sturdy drives. As for anyone having a repeat failure with that bearing be sure that bearing is very free to float in its holder. It is a flat race bearing that needs to float in flat bore bearing holder. I'm getting excellent life from original slightly smaller bearings and I would bet that someone with a repeat failure has a bearing holder that is not flat with sidewall of combine or bearing is not free to float in holder. Also if someone is not pulling bearing onto shaft they could be banging it on which could pop grease out seal or pop seal right off. I think that covers everything. I believe the torque of that nut is mentioned over in alerts topic for whom it may concern.
