Combines Importance of rotor Balancing

Rotor must be ClEAN as this is a 'in combine' trial and error method. Shift gearbox into neutral and insert long screwdriver into holes and spin cylinder. Mark heavy low spot where it stops. Where factory holes for balance pads are drilled, install weights on each end on up or light side of center star or use a longer cylinder bolt in rare instances. This is a trial and error method and you will need some form of weight about a 1_4 pound each to use that can be bolted and stacked. Keep adding weight and spinning until the cylinder stops without backing up at any point, in either direction. We have done this in 30 minutes up to an hour and it is more of an art than science. We have access to a semi trailer strobe balancer as well. Remove shoe drive, only run cylinder, mark the high spot via strobe and wa-la simple. This works to get the correct weight from end to end as well on a in frame dynamic balance. Most areas have truck tire balancing service that might be able to accomodate. Put the weigh bar under the frame RH and lH. This is about a 2 hour job. I have reported before that we also use my mother in law, we sit her on the engine hood, run the combine and when we get the cylinder balalnced she quits vibrating off onto the ground. :)

Hey Moonshine, how are the lentils looking out westIJ Did the air reel work out OK last yearIJ I shoulda maybe kept it, have some lentils in myself this year!
