I had the same problem with harvesting soybeans. I tried speeding up the cylinder and closing the space between the concave, all it did was crack the really dry beans and the pod's still showed up in the tank. The next thing I did was to go and buy a bean finishing sieve, that solved the problem.

Is the concave bar on the trap door goodIJ Not rounded over. Try installing another one, TWO BARS so it's more agressive in the threshing

All suggestions listed need to be followed and or checked. These are the other options to try if those don't help or you are already ok there. First I would try an adjustment. Open up the top screen another 1_4" over what you have now. Close the bottom screen until you see a tremendous amount of tailings coming through the little window inspection chute. Then open about a 1_16th at a time til only a bean or two come through on each paddle dump. This should return the pods to the cyl for rethreshing. If this fails procure two concave filler strips. The first one is a little wider than the rest but the narrow ones will work in the first opening in the grate ok. This will increase the threshing action about 20%. Some Ms and ls are set up with 6 rasp bars instead of 8. this aggrivates the problem as well. Third suggestion is do a 'sun dance'.

Update on Impossible Situation-Well fellas I did it, I cut soybeans at 21.3% moisture today with little or no sunshine!!. I ran cylinder to 800 RPM and set concave at 3_16" (cylinder is level). Bar on trap door was worn, dealer didn't have one, so I "sharpened" old one. Can a person make one of these bars out of 1 1_4 channel ironIJ I tried setting and resetting the chaffer and sieve but to no avail. I finally just shut the clean grain sieve down to where just beans would go through. I shut the top sieve WAY down also. I was riding some of the unthrashed pods out,but I figured at this point I had to sacrafice the something just to cut today. Beans still look good but need to be cut ASAP!! Could we please change places with you right now. Sounds great,continuous rain, sunshine occassionally. Beans to cut. Cant go wrong! Not a sign of a cloud for months here. Hot dry winds whip up every day. Ground cover has all but disappeared.Kangaroos in plague proportions,have chewed the wheat back to ground level and our hungry cattle won't even get a look in.Rains expected here in March. All the best with your bean harvest, we'd send you some of our best dry coditions,if we could only work out how. Regards Nico

T3, What do you do with beans that wet after you cut themIJ Our local Co-op here in Kansas doesn't like to take any beans over 13%. I was cutting some today that were about 13.5%. I had to twist their arm to get them to take them so I could keep cutting. K.A.

We are putting them in a bin (not many at a time) and are attempting to dry them. We have done this before but the beans were 16%, not 21%!

That's what we did this year too. Most of our beans were running 15-18% when we cut them. Put them in a bin, dried them to 13% and took them to town. Worked great! Didn't take too long to dry them either. When beans are cut that wet, shatter loss is nil. If we would have had to wait til the beans were 13% to cut, we'd still be cutting beans! Tom langan

Please keep your dry to yourself, we had dry all year. Here in Northwest Kansas we only had about 1.5" during the growing season untill harvest time, then we received about 3". We are very thankful as the new wheat is looking good. Sure has a long way to go till harvest. Kurt
