Don't know if it would work on a NH but on a CIH chopper you can use sickle sections as for the stationery blades in the chopper. They cut better and are cheap to replace. Check the "attachments" under topics on the CIH page as there is an outfit that sells a kit to this job, but it can be made at home too.

Are you using sharpened chopper bladesIJ If not, these will make a big difference. You can get them from aftermarket suppliers or loewen who manufactures them.

Do you have the cover plate installed on the discharge beaterIJ If you do already make sure it did not wear a hole in it. That will make the chopper not spread. Your chopper should do a very good job but if you no-till I would also put a chaff spreader on it.

Also I forgot to say that there is a wide spread coverboard upgrade for the strawchopper that would cost a few hundred dollars. I had one on my old TR-97 and it could spread 25' then. Hope this all helps!

What I had was a NH part. There may be a aftermarket one also. Mine was from a TR-98 tailboard. It is longer and has bigger fins. It will retrofit back to a TR-96.
