Combines in cab solinoid how hot

the gleaner unit is a continuous duty solinoid. It gets very uncomfortable at first touch, but it should not get really hot. Heat is due to the windings and characteristic resistance for the magnet to hold the contacts. The older they get the hotter they get. If someone has replaced it with a non continuous duty solinoid switch it will 'fry spit' after a few minutes and eventually cause problems. later units were plastic and were not as hot to touch best I can remember.

I used to have a late l2 and had to replace that solinoid often until I had to replace the alternator, I had no more problems after that. I think the weak alternator was causing it. Wolffman
