If you have not checked the rear beater speed you should. Under load it should be 740 if I remeber right.

We put poly paddles on our elevator but we really never had a problem. You must have something wrong because an 860 should handle that amount of corn easily. The elevator is rated at 2000 bu an hour not 850.

Check your takeaway augger in the grain tank. I had the same problem when I first got my 860. The flighting could be worn enough, so that it can't take enough grain away from the elevator, causing the elevator to backfeed. I welded a new 2ft. section of flighting onto the shaft. I left the original flighting on, and put the new one on halfway around from it. Since then I have only plugged a couple of times, and It can really eat the corn. good luck Joe

Now thats something worth checking out, I know flighting is worn but the 760 we had was same way, ours is a 82 model and has 5 inch flighting and every machine made in 1983 or newer had 8 inch cross auger and I think there had to be a reason for doing that. I think that if I could find a junker with a good 8 inch auger on, it might be worth trying what I really need is that top piece of the elevator where the chain is on that turns the auger, thats what I have been thinking, that 5inch flighting cant take it away fast enough and its going back down, had a problem with that too--- that top elevator sprocket is just on there with key way and snap rings on each side and it wears and gets all wobbly, I made new shaft and drilled 5_16 hole through it and new sprocket and put spring lock pin in there, no more problems with that,Wow-- that elevator is rated 2000 bushels an hour!with corn at 30% moisture-- i will believe when i see it- mechanic at dealer has worked on these since they came out in the early 70s he told me what it could do so wanted him to show me that thing could handle what he said it could and he never showed up,another time i asked him about it and he said he has been told before that the elevator isnt big enough.I toke injection pump off and toke it to Montevideo, guy over there works only on injection pumps- checked to Perkins specs perfect--he said he sets power up on most all of them and said he give it 20-30 more horse-- seemed a little better but still not even close to the v8.

I agree that the larger flighting would be an advantage. I too have an 82 machine, but with the extra section of flighting that I put on mine, I have all but eliminated the plugging. If you want to go with a new top housing for the elevator. There is a place called Schmidt Machine Co. in Upper Sandusky Oh. 1 800 589 3814. They make these, and other parts for the mf 860. I have had real good luck in dealing with them. I have one of their books, and it shows the later model top housing for $143.50. Joe
