I think the hassle is getting the power from the engine power takeoff to drive the chopper. Needs a gearbox ect. This TSR retro-fit chopper is now on the market and Redekop also has a add on chopper. The Redekop unit also spreads the chaff.

I've installed one in a 2388. The CaseIH kit was around $6000.It contains everything and looks factory .Good instructions made this job easy.I like the factory kit due to the reliability of the components.I've not seen the aftermarket kits so I can't speak for them.

I put a brand new 2166_2366 model CIH chopper in 1998 into a 1981 1460. Other than having to buy a 1460 quill shaft the entire chopper bolted in as a factory installation. I have never looked back. It made a real combine out of the 1460 for soybeans. I suggest you buy the new CIH chopper for the 2388. Everything will fit right out of the shipping crate. Usually you have to order one 3-6 months ahead.
