Is cottonwood good for firewood? How well does it burn? I have some sitting around and have been considering using it this winter. Is it just going to be a waste of my time trying to use it as firewood?

Cottonwood is very low BTU so it'll burn but not as warm as other hardwoods. Burn it if you have it, don't buy it if you don't

If it's just sitting around, why not? I don't know if it burns as slow as Ash, but if it does use for overnight.

And hope for a mild winter if you are going to use a lot of it.

Yes, cotton balls make great fire starters. They can either be dry or soaked in petroleum jelly. The former will burn for about 20 seconds whereas the latter can burn up to 5 minutes. Nonetheless, I am unsure if this can work during winter.
